General:

We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer with Aerospace experience. The perfect candidate will have had experience utilizing Solidworks software to design new products and product upgrades, creating 3D printed prototypes to allow fit and function testing and experience being involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and or repair of Aerospace products and systems.

The Electrical Engineer ensures that all product design and product improvement is executed in accordance within the guidelines of AS9100 based processes, as well as within FAA regulatory requirements. The engineer will also monitor in-service product reliability and coordinate with production staff as well as external parties on any design changes that will improve the overall product reliability across all platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Translates product design and product improvement ideas into working prototypes.
  • Originate new products in accordance with customer needs and business model.
  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
  • Work with appropriate personnel to ensure key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis regarding product development activities stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Evaluates and implements technology to help drive down manufacturing costs and helps implement cost saving best practices.
  • Coordinates with Team members, customers, and suppliers on new product design, manufacturing best practices and new technologies to ensure that new product design incorporates overall best practices to make product as reliable, efficient and cost effective as possible.
  • Maintain configuration management best practices across all product design and product improvements.
  • Ensures that all product development activities are executed in accordance with current FAA regulatory requirements.
  • A U.S. government issued clearance is preferred, but not required.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor Science degree required; Electrical Engineering required.
  • At least five years of job-related experience in Electrical engineer with focus on new product design or product improvement, aerospace and/or aviation industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, to include Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Experience working with 3D modeling software, Solidworks preferred.
  • Understanding of Quality Management systems in accordance with ISO or AS type standards
  • Engineering Experience a must.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented work environment.

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated Systems engineer with Communications and Payload experience to join the development of the next generation of satellite payloads.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing design concepts and technical baselines for payload communications processors and satellite controllers
  • Developing payload subsystem-level requirements and interface definitions and link budgets
  • Conducting payload design trades, including potential source identification/selection through formal Requests for Information
  • Perform analysis and decompose system level performance requirements to verifiable allocated subsystems/components requirement. Perform analysis to size computing/Digital signal processing/FPGA resources needed to implement the functionality specified to the subsystem.
  • Creating technology maturation and risk reduction plans for critical payload elements and satellite subsystems
  • Supporting proposal development activities for objective payload systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to develop and analyze technical requirements, perform trade studies, conduct major design reviews (e.g. PDR and/or CDR) and allocate functions down to subsystems and hardware/software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and peers. Ability to write technical sections of customer requests for information (RFIs) or proposals, including developing presentations to describe the technical approach in a clear manner.
  • Proficiency in relevant analytical tools (e.g., MATLAB, etc.)
  • A U.S. government issued clearance is preferred, but not required.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with satellite communications technologies and waveforms and general knowledge of antennas and electronics
  • Working knowledge of current US DoD Protected Satellite Communications (i.e., Milstar/AEHF)
  • Experience developing Analog/Digital interfaces
  • Experience with full-life cycle of ASIC/FGPA development including Register Transfer Level (RTL) hardware descriptive languages (IE VHDL, Verilog)
  • Experience performing software source lines of code (SLOC) estimates based on requirements
  • Prior satellite communications design experience, 8-20 years
  • Proven ability to develop analytical modeling and simulation tools/environments

Education:

  • Bachelor Science degree required; Systems Engineering or Aerospace preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred, but not required.

This is a contract position located in El Segundo, CA and other locations

Crean & Associates is looking to fill an open contract (1099) position for Electronics Assembly/Test Technician that is full time for an estimated initial 6-month duration but could easily lead to longer term engagement.

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated Electronics Assembly/Test Technicians providing expertise and support to customer-funded programs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assembly and test of electronic circuits for prototype development and production systems related to military and commercial security defense systems
  • Position requires someone with the ability to assemble/disassemble and test electronic circuits and parts
  • Tasks include wire harness assembly, circuit board soldering, connectors, and related components integration and test, knowledge and experience with PCBs is essential
  • Knowledge and proficiency with electronic test equipment
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical schematics, documentation, and component parameters
  • Ability to develop and follow written procedures and processes but also to think quickly to answer questions and solve problems involving differing situations, requiring creativity to search for solutions among learned and unlearned alternatives, especially for development /prototype assembly situations
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail when assembling, inspecting, and troubleshooting units to ensure the work is accurate and complete.
  • Troubleshoot, collect, compile, and analyze information to develop recommendations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer programs as well as the Internet and other basic database systems.
  • Communicate/interface with engineering and technical representatives to diagnose issues and recommend better course of actions
  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.

Education/Experience:

  • Two year technical degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in electronics assembly and PCBs
  • Soldering capability required, certification preferred

Crean & Associates is looking to fill an open contract (1099) position for RF/Microwave Engineer related technical expertise in Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) in the San Fernando Valley area (CA), with some work that can be performed remotely (up to 25%). The potential positions may be full or part time, for 4-6 months expected, with potential for extension.

Crean & Associates is a consulting organization dedicated to improving the position of our clients in the marketplace as well as provide technology and engineering solutions, specializing in Technical Subject Matter Expertise in Space, launch, missile, and aviation sectors. We are looking for a talented, highly motivated RF/Microwave Engineer providing expertise and support to customer-funded programs. Candidate will be responsible for carrying out RF/Microwave developments in one or more of the following areas: RF/Microwave control components (including RF switches, phase shifters, limiters, up converters, down converters etc.), high power amplifiers, transceivers/multi-assemblies and high power radar transmitters/sub-systems. Will be required to review customer SCDs and effectively work with other design professionals to carry out RF development tasks and meet customer requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive practical design and analysis experience in RF/Microwave products and broad knowledge of RF systems, especially Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA) experience
  • Innovative thinking and familiarity with the state-of-art.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve highly complex technical problems quickly and independently.
  • Fluency in RF/Microwave simulation and CAD design software coupled with hands-on-experience.
  • Design experience in meeting rugged military requirements.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing; must be able to work independently as well as within a team structure.
  • BS degree and 7+ years of applicable experience is required for this position.

This is a contract position located in northern Los Angeles County, CA

Crean & Associates is looking to fill an open contract (1099) position for a Dynamics Test Engineer, with some work that can be performed remotely (up to 25%).

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated Dynamics Test Engineer providing expertise and support to customer-funded programs.

Description: A Mid-level to Senior Dynamics Test Engineer – WITH ACTIVE TOP SECRET or SSBI SECURITY CLEARANCE – who has in-depth knowledge of spacecraft and space component level testing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for acoustic, random vibration and mechanical shock test requirements & criteria, and testing of all spacecraft and instrument components.
  • Develop and present test plans, test results and reports
  • Evaluate test results for various hardware items at different levels of assembly.
  • Collaborate with team members to verify compliance with requirements and customer expectations.
  • Some travel may be required for offsite testing.

Qualifications:

  • REQUIRED: Only applicants with an Active Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and/or TOP SECRET security clearance with access to sensitive compartmented information (SCI) can be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Acoustics or related technical discipline with 10 years of related dynamics environments experience; Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with 4 years related experience.
  • Experience and advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: random vibration test, sine vibration test, acoustic and shock testing.
  • Understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and test techniques in vibration, acoustics and shock; with test specifications for spacecraft systems and subsystems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in application of FORCE LIMITED vibration specification and test methodologies. Experience in modal testing and analysis.
  • Domain expert in random dynamic test, digital signal analysis, instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Experience with Pyroshock criteria and SRS; mastery of component shock testing in the lab using a variety of techniques.
  • Extensive experience providing dynamics criteria, requirements specification, and test in support of space flight projects.
  • Experience conducting random and swept sine electro-dynamic shaker vibration tests with multiple controls
